A study conducted on 24 people with social anxiety disorder proved that they felt less anxious after taking cannabinoids and taking a public speaking test. Also, cannabinoids have been used for the treatment of seizures. Studies show that cannabinoids are also used to lower the pressure in the eye, but are not as effective as treatments that are already in use. Cannabinoids only affect the pressure in the eye for a short period of time. 

Another health benefit of using cannabinoids is treating HIV/AIDS. It is believed that unintentional weight loss can be a problem for people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. In the year 1992, the FDA approved the use of a drug containing cannabinoid used in the treatment of loss of appetite associated with weight loss by people who are diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. On the other hand, some cannabis/cannabinoid preparations have been used in the study of multiple sclerosis symptoms, and these cannabinoids include dronabinol, nabiximols, nabilone, cannabis extract, and smoked cannabis. A review of 17 studies of a variety of cannabinoid preparations having 3,161 participants found that cannabinoids have made small improvements in spasticity, bladder problems, and pain in those people who were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Research funded by different international health organizations is investigating the potential relief of pain caused by the use of the common types of cannabinoids found in cannabis. The primary goal of these studies is to strengthen the evidence regarding cannabis properties if they have medical value in treating certain illnesses. In conclusion, although there are a number of studies conducted to determine the effects of cannabinoids in multiple diseases, there are still risks considered. 


The efficacy of cannabinoids has remained highly controversial even after studies have shown that it is widely being used for therapeutic purposes. However, due to methodological limitations, it is said that the conclusions made do not support the assessed comparisons. To summarize, there is evidence that using cannabinoids is effective in treating chronic pain in adults and improving multiple sclerosis spasticity symptoms. The harm caused by heavy cannabis use is considered modest compared to that caused by other psychoactive substances.
